According to a press release from the University, former Mississippi State linebacker Jamar Chaney was named the inside linebackers coach for the Baylor Bears for the 2024 season.

Chaney joins Dave Aranda's staff after spending last season with Tyson Helton at Western Kentucky as an assistant linebackers coach.

A former second team All-SEC linebacker for the Bulldogs, Chaney put together a legendary career in his time in Starkville and also spent four seasons in the NFL.

In his time at Mississippi State, the Florida native finished with an impressive 286 career tackles, 4.5 sacks and two interceptions.

His best season came as a junior in 2007 when the Bulldogs finished the year 8-5 and Chaney was named second team All-SEC after recording 89 tackles and, 3.5 of which for a loss, and four pass deflections.

He was a seventh round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010 and after spending a productive three seasons with the team was waived ahead of the 2014 season.

Chaney saw brief stints with the Raiders and Falcons before officially retiring from playing that same year.

Since stepping away from playing the game, the former linebacker has turned to coaching and has served under some of the sport's brightest minds.

Chaney has worked under or alongside the likes of Andy Reid, Todd Bowles, Mike Leach and more.

He joins Baylor after an abysmal 3-9 finish in 2023. Although the team has a long way to go in order to compete for championships, Baylor could bounce back sooner than later given the departure of two of the conference's top programs: Oklahoma and Texas.
