Just A Bulldog Minute: Mississippi State Women's Basketball Remains Undefeated

The Mississippi State women's basketball team continues the season 2-0 after a win win against Southeastern Louisiana

Although the Mississippi State women's basketball team came out with a bit of a challenge, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back fast to dominate against Southeastern Louisiana State on Friday night.

After racking up a total score of 67-46, the Bulldogs advanced to 2-0 with a 16-2 record under coach Sam Purcell. Sophomore forward Debreasha Powe took a 23 to run in third quarter and finished with one rebound away of a third career double-double.

"We weren't getting after it in the first half," said head coach Sam Purcell in the post-game press conference. "We did a much better job at closing out on shooters and rebounding after the half. That was part of it, but Southeastern Louisiana hit a lot tough shots and made big-time players at the end of the shot clock right when our fans were getting ready to get going. We knew we needed to get some separation, shout out to my assistant coaches, they pointed out that we needed to get into our press which fueled our run."

Powe continued to improve the team's score with a 14-7 run that was ended with a a buzzer-beating three ending the period. In the beginning of the second period, Mississippi State lead 27-26 and propelled with a 23-2 run over 6:33 minutes on non-stop action and turnovers.

After the half, Mississippi State outscored SELA 40-20 and continued to rack up the points with the bench putting up 25. The Lady Bulldogs also scored 21 points off 18 forced turnovers.

The Lady Bulldogs will be back on Sunday when they take on Jacksonville State in Humphrey Coliseum at 2PM.
