Mississippi State basketball has already seen a whirlwind of a year after upsetting two top 10 teams in the SEC. With this incredible feat, Mississippi State basketball has a bright future ahead if they can keep up the momentum.

On Saturday, the men’s basketball team took down No. 8 Auburn University with a 64-58 victory. This win brings the mens’ basketball team to a 14-6 victory overall and 3-4 conference record.

Freshman Josh Hubbard made his first start of the season and the first start of his collegiate career. He recently took the title as leading freshman scorer in the SEC at 14.9 points per game.

To follow up the conference upset, the lady Bulldogs defeated No. 9 LSU on Monday with an incredible 77-73 win. This victory propelled the team forward 17-5 overall and 4-3 in the SEC.

Both teams will have challenges in keeping this momentum up as the season progresses. The men’s basketball will take on the Rebels at 7:30 p.m. in Oxford this evening. This rivalry game will have some geographical tension added to the heat of competition.

On the other hand, the lady Bulldogs have a few days to reset and prepare before they head to Lexington to take on the Kentucky Wildcats this Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Although it is early in the season to look at rankings for Mississippi State, these triumphs will put the teams' names in the ears of other competitors, and fuel future conference matchups with a little more heat.
