While the Mississippi State baseball team has gotten off to a rocky start, outfielder Dakota Jordan has shined through to be the diamond amongst all of the rough.

As a freshman, Jordan has already started making his mark on the Mississippi State baseball program. As of the most recent series against South Carolina, he holds a .333 hitting average with 21 hits and 3 home runs for this 2023 season.

His powerful swing was made apparent as he hit a 474-foot home run against the University of Louisiana Monroe earlier in the season that resulted in win for the Bulldogs. While this impressed coaches, teammates, fans and even skeptics, Jordan had a bigger statement in the making.

On Day 2 of the series against South Carolina, Jordan stepped up when the team needed him the most. After losing the first game 4-6, the Bulldogs needed a boost of confidence for the remainder of the series. Jordan was able to swing some hope towards Mississippi State in the bottom of the third inning.

Jordan left his previous home runs in the dust as he sent a ball of fire towards far left field and off the front of the Dudy Noble Field lofts. The ball traveled a total of 487 feet, which is 13 feet further than his previous home run achievement. Jordan's hit would have been the seventh-longest home run hit in the MLB during the 2022 season.

The moonshot by Jordan pushed Mississippi State to a 4-1 lead in the third inning. As he achieved a personal win, MSU also held onto the momentum to finish out the game 13-3.

The victory against the South Carolina Gamecocks served as Mississippi State's first SEC win this season, something the Bulldogs will look to build on moving forward in what's been an inconsistent year to this point.
