Mississippi State guard Josh Hubbard is quickly becoming a star in the SEC.

The Bulldogs finished the week 1-1 with a 79-70 loss at Florida and a 64-58 win over the eighth-ranked Auburn Tigers. Hubbard scored a team-high in both games; the 5-10 guard scored 26 points in the loss to Florida and 17 in the Bulldogs' upset win over Auburn. The Madison, Miss. native also made his first career start against the Tigers.

Hubbard also scored 25 points in the Bulldogs' 77-72 win over Tennessee. The freshman seems to always perform well in the most significant moments consistently.

Hubbard has been a dynamic scorer for MSU all year, averaging 15 points a game, trailing only preseason All-SEC selection Tolu Smith for the Bulldogs' leading scorer. Hubbard has been a great scorer on every level, becoming the all-time points leader in Mississippi High School basketball history at Madison Ridgeland Academy.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Hubbard is one of two Power 6 freshmen players (ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC) to average at least 14.5 points per game with a minimum of 15 games off the bench going back to 2005-06.

It's the third time he's been named the SEC Freshman of the Week. The only other player in program history to win the award three times is Jamont Gordon. He won it four times during the 2005-06 season.

Hubbard originally signed with Ole Miss out of high school but flipped to the Bulldogs' after the Rebels fired their head coach, Kermit Davis. The Bulldogs take on the Rebels tomorrow in Oxford at 7:30 p.m. central on SEC Network.
