Mississippi State women's basketball forward Jessika Carter was named to Preseason All-SEC Second Team honors, the conference announced this week.

Along with Carter, other SEC players named to All-SEC Second Team honors include LSU’s Aneesah Morrow, Ole Miss’ Madison Scott, Tennessee’s Jewel Spear, Texas A&M’s Aicha Coulibaly and Vanderbilt’s Jordyn Cambridge.

Carter, a senior from Waverly Hill, GA, enters her final season after a successful junior campaign, averaging 14.8 points along with 7.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists, while shooting 57.0% from the field during the 2022-23 season.

Last season, Carter set new career highs in points per game, blocked shots (65), and assists (42) while leading the Bulldogs in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and field goal percentage. She also became the 28th Bulldogs player to achieve 1,000 career points.

Carter was named to Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team honors for her performance last season. She was arguably the most productive player on the Bulldogs roster and her return for what might be her last season greatly boosts their offense.

The Bulldogs enter year two under head coach Sam Purcell, who last season led the Bulldogs to a 22-11 record, including 9-7 in SEC play. He also led the team to a NCAA Tournament berth, where they upset sixth seeded Creighton before losing to third seeded Notre Dame in the second round.

The Bulldogs have been ranked No. 25 in the AP Preseason Poll and are projected to finish fifth in the conference in the SEC Preseason Media Poll. Their season begins on Nov. 6 when they host Alcorn State in Starkville.
