Mississippi State’s Josh Hubbard Awarded with the Bailey Howell Trophy

For the third straight year, a Mississippi State player was awarded the Bailey Howell Trophy.

JACKSON, Miss – Star freshman Josh Hubbard was honored with the Bailey Howell Trophy in his first season with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

The Bailey Howell Trophy is an annual award that is given to the best college basketball player in the state of Mississippi. Other finalists named for the award were players Matthew Murrell from Ole Miss and Austin Crowley from Southern Miss. With an explosive first season at the collegiate level, there was no surprise that Hubbard was honored with the award.

Some of his accomplishments this season were career-defining and jaw-dropping. He is now the all-time 3-point leader in made three in a season for MSU with 98. He has passed MSU legend Rickey Brown by holding the all-time freshman scoring record for the school and was named SEC-Freshman of the Week five times during the season.

He has 11 games of 20-plus points as well as back-to-back 30-point games against LSU and No. 15 Kentucky. For the season, he is averaging 16.8 points per game, which is seventh in the SEC and fifth among freshmen in the country, while also averaging 28 over his past five games. He is a natural-born scorer and many across the country have started to take notice of the Mississippi native as he has become the needed offense the Bulldogs have been searching for.

He will try to continue his hot streak of games with above 20-point points in the SEC tournament when the Bulldogs take on LSU on Thursday (Noon on SEC Network).
