The Dallas Cowboys brought in a notable new addition last week when they traded a fourth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for quarterback Trey Lance.

Current starting quarterback Dak Prescott was not made aware of the move by team owner and general manager Jerry Jones before the beginning of Saturday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders in which Prescott called plays for the offense.

One of the products of the decision to bring Lance aboard will be the team parting ways with quarterback Will Grier, something that Prescott seemed disappointed in.

“I can’t say that I necessarily expected [a heads-up], no,” Prescott said, in a report from ESPN

“I understand though that that’s business. I understand that they’re probably on a timeline, they need to get something done. He felt like that strengthened this team and, yeah, ready to welcome [Lance] and, yeah, I mean knowing the strength of the quarterback room that we have. Honestly right now, my heart and my mind is with Will. So it’s a tough situation, honestly. Love that guy to death over there. Plays his ass off, comes in, prepares the right way each and every day.”

Prescott wasn't shocked with the way things go in the league, though.

“You’ve been in this league eight years, been on this team,” Prescott said, “It’s hard to say that I was surprised to be honest with you.”

The former Mississippi State passer is signed through 2024 with the Cowboys, and the team has expressed interest in signing him to an extension. How Dallas may use the addition of Lance as potential leverage will be something to keep an eye on, but Prescott isn't speaking up on that.

"I'm going to leave those talks in the office where business is handled," Prescott said.

Prescott and the Cowboys are set to open the season against the New York Giants on the road at 7:20 p.m. CT on Sunday, Sept. 10.
