Former Mississippi State Head Coach Dan Mullen Reportedly No Longer Calling Rivalry Game

Former Mississippi State head coach will reportedly no longer be in the booth for one of college football's most well-known rivalry games.

Former Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen will no longer be in the booth for the Egg Bowl rivalry game between the Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Rebels in 2023, as was reported by Ole Miss beat reporter Brad Logan.

Mullen had said on "The Stingray Show" earlier in the month that he would be calling the contest. Clearly, some things now seem to have changed.

He's one of the most storied coaches in terms of on-the-field success over recent history for MSU, holding a 5-4 overall record in the yearly Egg Bowl matchups over the course of his time in Starkville.

He spent just one year short of a decade in Bulldogs country, becoming the head coach of the Florida Gators after nine seasons with MSU. That gig lasted four seasons before Mullen accepted a position as a studio analyst for ABC and ESPN in 2022.

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out after the Bulldogs came out on top in the latest Egg Bowl meeting, securing a 24-22 win in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

The win also marked the last game legendary Air Raid guru Mike Leach coached in his career before his unexpected passing in December of 2022.
