Defensive Line Coach David W. Turner Sends Message Out to Mississippi State Prospects

Many of Mississippi State's defensive standouts have moved forward, leaving wide-open roster spots for new players.

Last season ended college football careers for a lot of Mississippi State football players who stood out on the defensive side of the ball.

Those names safeties John Preston Jr., Jackie Matthews, Collin Duncan, and Jalen Green. Corners Decamarion Richardson and Emmanuel Forbes, and defensive back Marcus Banks.

Without these essential players, the starting defensive lineup for Mississippi State will be mostly comprised of the new additions to the team. Defensive line coach David W. Turner recently took to Twitter for MSU's prospects..

"If you are a HS DLineman, there is no place better in America to come and be developed than MISSISSIPPI STATE!," he tweeted. :Look at who's excelling at the next level. . . look at the numbers!! Don't take away my word, do your research on players and coaches!! ONLY DAWGS APPLY!!!"

Turner recently returned to Mississippi State from Florida for his third stint as a coach for MSU.

His previous experience in 20 years of coaching ranged in Florida, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Virginia, and NC State. He has led 17 teams to bowl berths and helped the Bulldogs rank No. 2 in the SEC in sacks in 2014.

He has had plenty of success with the Bulldogs, a huge part of creating a top--five SEC defense in 2013 and helping them win their first 10-win season in 2014 since 1999.

Turner also recruited, signed, and tutored NFL standout defensive tackle Fletcher Cox who was an early draft pick in 2009 as well as Chicago Bears linebacker Purnell McPhee the same year.

It's no question Turner is already working hard with the team during the spring to get the unit fully prepared for the 2023 season.
