Mississippi State QB Will Rogers Named To 2023 Wuerffel Trophy Watchlist

Bulldogs quarterback Will Rogers was named to the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.

Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers was named to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy this week, awarded annually to the college football player "who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement."

This is the third preseason honor awarded to Rogers. He was also named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award and was named a member of the preseason All-SEC Third Team list as voted by the media.

Rogers, a senior from Brandon, MS, started in all 13 for the Bulldogs last season, and posted 3,974 passing yards, which ranked second in the SEC and ninth in the nation. He also surpassed Aaron Murray as the SEC's all-time leader in career completions, doing so in in 28 games compared to Murray, who did it in 52 games.

Entering the 2023 season, Rogers ranks eighth on the all-time SEC career passing yards (10,689). He’s just 513 yards away from surpassing Peyton Manning (11,201) and jumping into the top five on the all-time SEC career passing yards list.

This upcoming season will be a little different for Rogers, who is now being coached by first-year head coach Zach Arnett, who has stated on numerous occasions that the team will be moving away from the Air Raid offense implemented by Mike Leach, who passed away in December of 2022.
