On This Day in Mizzou History:
October 28, 1910: Missouri pummeled Oklahoma during a neutral-site game in Joplin, 26-0. Although the teams played once before in 1902 (won by the Tigers), this was the beginning of their annual rivalry, playing every year through 1995 minus one, 1918 due to World War I.
October 28, 1961: Dan Devine's team shut out Nebraska, 10-0.
October 28, 1972: Coming off a 20-14 upset of No. 2 Oklahoma, Missouri stunned No. 7 Colorado, 20-17. After Greg Hill missed a 22-yard field goal with just under 2 minutes remaining, the Tigers rallied to get him another chance with 6 seconds remaining.
Quote of the Day
“You know I’m a history teacher by trade. Every time I come to one of these meetings I’m blown away that the 13 colonies actually formed a union. We can’t agree on an eight or nine-game schedule.” — Eli Drinkwitz, who began his coaching career at the middle and high school level.
