Person looks to continue success against Florida State

The sophomore running back scored three touchdowns in last year's win against the Seminoles

NC State running back Ricky Person Jr. has been consistent over the past three weeks while averaging 52 rushing yards per game, but he could be ready for a breakout performance Saturday at Florida State.

That's because of his history against the Seminoles.

A year ago in Raleigh, the sophomore rushed for two touchdowns and caught a pass for another score to lead the Wolfpack to a 47-28 victory.

With freshman Zonovan Knight's status uncertain because of a hamstring issue suffered in last week's win against Ball State, Person figures to be in line for more carries than usual on Saturday. Despite that and last year's success against FSU, Person said he's treating his team's ACC opener in Tallahassee as just another game.

Here's what he had to say during a short session with the media on Tuesday ...

Does last year’s success against FSU give you confidence against it heading into this year’s game?

“It just came with the preparation. That comes from watching film all week. I hope to repeat the same thing all over again. It just comes to preparation.”

Is there any difference in preparing for an ACC opponent as opposed to a nonconference game?

“There’s no difference. It’s just another opponent. We’ve been working all week. We want to treat every opponent the same.”

With a three-running back rotation, do you know when you're going to go in or do the coaches go with a hot hand philosphy?

“We know when our turn is going to be. Coach communicates well with us about who’s going to be on the field and who’s not. That comes with everybody inside the room, because we’ve got playmakers. Playmakers have to be on the field.”

How hard is it to find a rhythm with so many players sharing the carries?

“Getting a rhythm is kind of hard, but it comes with the preparation. If your watching the film, practicing all week and doing the things you’re supposed to do, then you’ll be ready.”

What's your opinion of Florida State?

“It’s a great program, but I mean we beat them twice. I mean, we’ve got a great coaching staff, they’ve got a great coaching staff. It’s going to be a great game.”
