Nebraska football will have four team captains for the 2022 season, and three are on the defensive side of the ball.

Selected by a vote of their teammates were linebacker Nick Henrich, edge rushers Garrett Nelson and Caleb Tannor, and tight end Travis Vokolek.  The selections were announced Saturday evening.

Each is in at least his fourth season in the program, and the four have played a combined 112 games at Nebraska, including 62 starts, according to the Athletic Department.

An Omaha native, Henrich made 99 tackles during the 2021 season and has 13 career starts. Henrich earned a degree in psychology in three years and is taking graduate classes.

Nelson, from Scottsbluff, has logged 20 career starts and 102  tackles, including 17½ for loss. He earned his degree in finance in May.

Tannor has played in 44 games with 22 starts. The native of Stone Mountain, Ga., enters his final season with more than 80 tackles, including 12 for loss. He graduated last December with a degree in child, youth and family sciences.

Vokolek is in his fourth season in the Husker program and his sixth season of college football. He has played in 36 games during his college career, including 17 at Nebraska. He graduated last August with a degree in child, youth and family studies.

Nebraska opens its season Aug. 27 against Northwestern in Dublin, Ireland.
