The Nebraska Cornhuskers have been pushing really hard for a specific four-star recruit who recently released his top 10 schools.

Dawson Merritt is a four-star linebacker from Blue Valley High School in Overland Park, Kansas. He measures in at around 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds and is a Nebraska lean at this moment alongside the Kansas Jayhawks, who are a serious threat.

After the release of his top 10 schools, he spoke with HuskerMax.

“Nebraska is a top school because of the fact that I feel connected with that coaching staff. I really have loved Coach (Rob) Dvoracek (linebackers), Coach (Evan) Cooper (secondary) and Coach (Matt) Rhule (head coach). What stands out is I talk to five-plus guys there, unlike other schools,” Merritt said.

He also shed light on two visits coming up with the Huskers, which should be positive news for Nebraska fans.

Merritt has felt like more and more of a priority as Nebraska attempts to bring him into its 2025 recruiting class. He is a top 100 prospect, being ranked as high as 61st in the nation.

According to On3’s RPM (recruiting prediction machine), the Huskers are out in front as 57.0% favorites for the star linebacker. The Kansas Jayhawks, who have put up a good fight thus far, are behind in second at 10.8%, but I believe it is quite a bit closer than that.

The Huskers currently sit at 45th in the nation for 2025 recruiting,  according to 247Sports, as they have three commits (Tyson Terry, Caden VerMaas and Conor Booth). Nebraska finished 23rd in the 2024 class.
