Nebraska is always solid at targeting players with connections to the program. We saw that last year with quarterback Dylan Raiola and his multiple family ties to the Huskers.

But you don’t have to be family; you can be friends, teammates or even training partners. At the end of the day it’s always smart to go after people who are connected. That way you can form a specific pitch.

That was the case with three-star cornerback Mikhail Benner from Broomfield, Colorado. The class of 2025 prospect measures in at around 6-foot and 175 pounds according to 247Sports. Although he has yet to receive an offer from Nebraska, he has been getting recruited heavily, including an invitation to next month's  spring game. He is also teammates with 2024 Nebraska signee Landen Davidson.

Benner has quite the résumé as he was named All-Colorado at defensive back.

He recently caught up with HuskerMax to talk more about his recruitment and the visit he hopes to make.

“I have a teammate committed (Landen Davidson) and he only says great things about it every time he goes out there, and it sounds great,” Benner said.

He mentioned the Nebraska staffers he connects fairly well with. “Coach (Evan) Cooper and (recruiting assistant Kyle) Fisher.” He also confirms that he does hope to get to Lincoln on a visit. “I hope to get out for the spring game.”

He talked more about what makes the Cornhuskers special.

“Only great things, I hear about it all the time and hope I get to experience how amazing the program and culture are.”

He did talk about his conversations with the staff who came to his school, including head coach Matt Rhule.

“They came to see my teammate who was committed, but I got to sit down and talk with the two coaches that came by and (they) got to teach me about Lincoln and what they have going on.”
