Nebraska Softball: Bowlin Stadium Under 2-Phase Expansion
Before Jordy Bahl announced her intentions to transfer home, the Nebraska softball team had 365 season tickets sold with a waitlist of 26.
As of Monday, there have been more than 4,000 requests for season tickets this season.
On June 16, 2023, there was a waitlist of 2,124.
Bowlin Stadium's capacity last season was about 2,500, this season it will be closer to 3,000.
Head coach Rhonda Revelle joined the Softball America Podcast on Monday morning and explained the stadium's expansion plan.
"It's going to end up being a two-phase project," Revelle said. "This season we'll add about 1,100 seats. We have a second that will involve moving some earth in the outfield area which will take place over the summer. When it's all said and done, it's about a $3 million excavation to try and get more seats at Bowlin Stadium."
With the additional 1,100 seats, Bowlin Stadium will start to rival Oklahoma's new Love's Field with 4,000 and Alabama's Rhoads Stadium at 3,940.
Fans will start filing into Bowlin with the first of 21 home games on March 1 against Wichita State. They will notice that the berm seating has been converted to permanent chairbacks and extra bleachers have been added.
Last season, the Huskers had only 13 home games.
"I just hope that people come into Bowlin and think, 'Man, this is a really hard place to play,'" Revelle said. "We're going to try and get these fans really riled up and knowing that they have a part in making that happen just like they do at PBA (Pinnacle Bank Arena) or Memorial Stadium or the Devaney Center."
