Nebraska Softball: Huskers' Jordy Bahl to Redshirt With Season-Ending Injury

The star junior pitcher will miss the entire 2024 season

Nebraska junior pitcher Jordy Bahl released a statement on her social media saying she will miss the entire 2024 season due to an ACL injury.

Bahl's injury happened in the third inning against Washington on Thursday night when her plant leg gave out from underneath her and she fell to the ground. She was helped off the field and was seen throughout the rest of the weekend walking around.

Head coach Rhonda Revelle told Nate Rohr on Huskers Radio that they were treating her injury as serious and she would undergo testing when they got back to Lincoln.

Revelle released a statement Tuesday after Bahl's announcement.

“Obviously, we are all disappointed to hear the news of Jordy’s season-ending knee injury. We are grateful that Jordy is in excellent care with our medical team and are confident in a full recovery. We fully expect that Jordy will be granted a hardship for this season and be back in the jersey for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

"The 2024 season is young, and we are a veteran team with strong leadership that is coming off back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances. We all remain committed to playing an exciting and competitive brand of softball. We look forward to seeing Husker Nation at Bowlin Stadium this season.”

Losing the ace of the staff will force senior Kaylin Kinney into the No. 1 role for the rest of the season.

Kinney appeared in the circle for three of the Huskers' five games opening weekend. She finished the tournament 2-1 with a 2.27 ERA. She scattered nine hits, five runs (four earned), two walks and six strikeouts over 12.1 innings.

The two other pitchers who will have to step up are senior Sarah Harness and freshman Caitlin Olensky.

Harness appeared in three games with two starts and finished without a decision and a 5.04 ERA. She surrendered six earned runs and six walks on nine hits in 8.1 innings of work. Olensky made two relief appearances and gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits and two free passes. She struck out two and has an ERA of 10.50 in two innings.

Nebraska travels to New Mexico State for the Troy Cox Classic and will open with a doubleheader against the Aggies on Friday at 4:30 p.m. CST.
