BREAKING: 2022 Four-Star Safety Austin Brown Commits to Wisconsin

The Johnston City (IL) prospect chose the Badgers over Northwestern, Illinois, and Iowa, among others.

Johnston City (IL) four-star safety prospect Austin Brown verbally committed to Wisconsin on Instagram Live today.

The 6'1, 195 pound safety had 21 offers, including ones from Northwestern, Iowa, Boston College and Michigan, but he chose to take his talents to Madison instead. Brown was recruited by Defensive Coordinator Jim Leonhard at Wisconsin.

In his 2020 season, Brown played both quarterback and safety for Johnston City, leading them to a 6-0 spring record. Over that span Brown recorded 36 tackles, two tackles for loss and two pass breakups. On the offensive side of the ball, Brown recorded 1,126 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns en route to a 2A first-team all state honor.

Brown is a versatile, tough DB who fills run lanes aggressively and rarely makes mistakes when diagnosing plays. On the back end Brown has excellent make up speed and acceleration when the ball is in the air. Playing at quarterback as well helps Brown see the field in a different way than most of his peers at his position. Brown is sure to be a chess piece in the Leonard defense for the Wisconsin Badgers.
