Notre Dame improved to 2-1 on the season after earning a 79-50 victory over Howard in a game where the Irish never trailed.

The Irish jumped out to a fast start, scoring the first seven points of the game. After the two teams traded baskets the Irish went on a 17-6 run to blow the game open.

Notre Dame used a balanced scoring attack in the first half, with Freshman forward Nate Laszewski and senior forward Juwan Durham leading the Irish with seven points, sophomore Robby Carmody and senior Rex Pfueger chipped in with six points and sophomore Dane Goodwin added five points.

Senior John Mooney grabbed 10 rebounds in the opening half, but he only scored four points while hitting just two of his first seven shots. Mooney took the game over in the second half, scoring nine straight points to give the Irish a 58-31 lead.

The captain led the Irish with 18 points and finished with 16 rebounds, marking his second straight double double. Durham finished with 11 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. Goodwin also scored 11 points and Pflueger added 10 points.

Notre Dame hit 32 of 63 shots from the field, marking the second straight game the Irish finished over 50-percent. The Irish had assists on 22 of those 32 made shots, and they out-rebounded Howard by a 45-32 margin.

Notre Dame limited Howard to just 19-61 from the field and 8-26 from behind the arc.

Guards Prentiss Hubb and TJ Gibbs carried the offense in the first two games, but the Irish backcourt mates combined for just 12 points on 5-15 shooting against the Bison. 

Notre Dame takes on Marshall (1-1) this Friday night at 7:00 PM ET at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.
