Notre Dame Makes A Big Impression On Standout 2025 Linebacker Gavin Nix

Notre Dame recently hosted standout linebacker Gavin Nix for a visit, and the Irish made a strong impression

It has been a busy few days for 2025 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy star linebacker Gavin Nix, who spent two days at Notre Dame earlier this week. It was Nix’s first trip back to South Bend since last offseason, and did not disappoint.

“It was great to get back to South Bend,” Nix told Irish Breakdown. “There weren’t many recruits on campus so I really got a chance to have a lot more one-on-one opportunities with the coaches this time.

“Each one of them are real students of the game,” he added. “I’ve been growing a great bond with them all, especially Coach (MaxBullough.”

That included a chance to really break down the Irish defense with Coach Bullough. He showed Nix just how he would fit into Coach (AlGolden’s defense, which relies on high IQ linebackers, which fits Nix.

“I really got to get into scheme with Coach Bullough as well,” Nix said. “He showed how I would be used as a MIKE and WILL in the defense. They see me as a playmaker who can create some big plays all over the field.”

The travel schedule doesn’t stop for Nix, who is already on his way to spend some time at Ohio State. Before heading back home, Nix will also be checking out Louisville and UCF. This is the busy time of the year for the talented linebacker, but all the travels will help to begin to cut down the school list moving forward.

“After my visits this spring, I want to sit down and really figure out who my top schools are,” he explained. “From there, it goes into decision making mode. I want to have a commitment made before senior year.”

There is a lot of competition for Nix’s services, who is being pursued by some of the top programs in all of college football. Despite that demand, Nix has been very receptive to Notre Dame. They are a team that seems to have some stay power with him, and could be in it until the end.

“Notre Dame has been a team who has been recruiting me for a long time,” explained Nix. “Since the first time I spoke with them, they had made me feel valued. They are a team I am very high on, and appreciate all of their time and belief.

“It isn’t just about football over there,” he added. “Obviously they give you top notch football but being a student athlete at Notre Dame is something special. You get a chance to be a great student, person and community member. It’s a different feel than a lot of places.”

Nix is considered a consensus four-star recruit by every major recruiting platform. He ranks highest on the 247Sports ranking, currently sitting at the No. 79 overall player and No. 12 linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class. Nix also ranks as a top 150 overall player by Rivals, currently pegged at No. 136 on their ranking.

When talking about elite offer lists, you will be hard pressed to find much better than Nix, he has garnered interest from some of the premier programs in all of college football. Some of hit top offers so far include Notre Dame, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Miami, Florida, Oregon, Florida State, Penn State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Auburn, UNC, Kentucky, South Carolina, Maryland, Duke, Louisville, West Virginia, Colorado, Baylor, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh and UCF among others.

As a junior, Nix played in eight games for IMG Academy. He finished second on the team with 42 total tackles. The 6-1, 215-pound defender also recorded seven tackles for loss, one sack and five quarterback hurries.
