Ohio State Buckeyes' Kyle McCord Breaks School Record For Most Consecutive Passes Completed
Though it's been junior receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. who has been rising up the Buckeyes' all-time passing yards list, junior quarterback Kyle McCord broke a school record of his own against Rutgers Saturday.
After completing his last seven passes in Wisconsin on Oct. 28, he broke Ohio State's all-time consecutive passes record with 18, starting 11/11 in Piscataway, New Jersey Saturday.
The previous Ohio State record for consecutive passes completed was set by current Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, who completed 17 straight in a game against Michigan State Nov. 20, 2021.
McCord broke the record with a check-down to junior running back TreVeyon Henderson, who has started off strong against Rutgers in the first half.
His first incompletion Saturday was a low throw to junior receiver Julian Fleming early in the second quarter.
Overall, the quarterback ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten in passing yards and passing efficiency, slinging the ball at a 64.1 completion rate.
Though he struggled in the first half last week in Madison, Wisconsin, he has been a consistent leader of a dynamic Ohio State offense. Even with Henderson and junior receiver Emeka Egbuka missing time, McCord has made the most of his situation, targeting Harrison, senior tight ends Cade Stover and Gee Scott Jr., and freshman Carnell Tate in their absences.
The Buckeyes overall have posted a top-20 passing offense in the country — no surprise for a Ryan Day-led squad.
The Buckeyes currently trail the Knights 9-7 through the first half of play after a late McCord interception led to a Rutgers field goal.
