Ohio State Continues Slide In AP Top 25 Poll

The Ohio State Buckeyes are 2-0, but have not looked good enough in the eyes of the AP Top 25 Poll voters.

The Ohio State Buckeyes had a "disappointing" 35-7 win against the Youngstown State Penguins, and the Associated Press Top 25 Poll voters took notice.

Ohio State, which started the season at No. 3, fell one more spot to No. 6 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, getting jumped by the Texas Longhorns and USC Trojans as the Alabama Crimson Tide fell out of the top five. The Buckeyes trail Georgia, Michigan, Florida State and USC, respectively.

Ohio State's offense had a little more fire power in the first quarter in which quarterback Kyle McCord linked up with high school teammate in wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. for a pair of scores — the first for 71 and the second for 39 yards.

McCord was 14-of-20 for 258 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with wide receiver Emeka Egbuka for a 28-yard score in the second quarter.

Running back TreVeyon Henderson's 30-yard touchdown run in the third quarter were the Buckeyes' only points in the second half. He finished with 56 yards and two scores — the second time in as many weeks Ohio State had a tailback find the end zone twice — and averaged 11.2 yards per carry.

Cornerback Denzel Burke picked off Youngstown State quarterback Beau Brungard in the end zone for the defense's first turnover of the season. The Buckeyes almost had another on linebacker Tommy Eichenberg's strip sack, but a Penguins offensive lineman pounced on the football.

Head coach Ryan Day said "it's worth considering" naming a starter this week to get the offense in sync before Ohio State faces the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Sept. 23.

The Buckeyes are back home Saturday against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at Ohio Stadium at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
