Ohio State Women's Basketball Earns 3 Seed In NCAA Tournament

The Ohio State Buckeyes turned a corner in the back end of their season, winning five of their last seven games en route to being the runner up in the Big Ten Tournament.

The Ohio State Buckeyes didn't accomplish their goal of a Big Ten Tournament title, losing in the championship to Iowa.

However, their historic season — in which they raced out to a program-best 19-0 start to the year — will continue in the NCAA Tournament as a No. 3 seed against No. 14-seed James Madison at Value City Arena in Columbus Saturday.

With the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament format, the first and second rounds will be played on campus in Columbus, as well as a First Four matchup between Purdue and St. John's.

Either the Boilermakers or Red Storm will then face No. 6-seed North Carolina, and the winner will face either Ohio State or James Madison in the Second Round.

Ohio State is in Seattle Region 3, so if it makes the Sweet 16 for a second-consecutive season, the Buckeyes will then head West to play games at Climate Pledge Arena in the Evergreen State.

The top seed in the Seattle Region 3 is Virginia Tech, which went 27-4 and won the ACC Tournament. The region also features last year's runner-up and a perennial powerhouse in No. 2-seed UConn and No. 4-seed Tennessee, which Ohio State beat 87-75 in Columbus Nov. 8, 2022.

The Buckeyes have made six NCAA Tournament berths under head coach Kevin McGuff, including three Sweet 16 appearances in 2016, 2017, and 2022.

A McGuff-led team has never lost in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, and Ohio State is 6-0 all-time against James Madison.

The full 68-team bracket can be found here.
