The Oklahoma State basketball head coaching search might be soon coming to a close. It's been reported by multiple sources that Western Kentucky's Steve Lutz is emerging as the program's top candidate.

The third-year head coach just completed his first season coaching for Western Kentucky, where Lutz led the program to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2012-13 season. Even when he was at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Lutz made the Big Dance in both of his seasons. He's three-for-three in making the tournament.

Still, the coaching search hasn't come to a close as no hiring has been made official or no hiring has been reported as done. Until then, speculation will continue.

On Wednesday, as the Oklahoma City Blue played an afternoon game to kick off a doubleheader, followed by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the evening. Former Oklahoma State basketball forward Lindy Waters III played with the Blue, where he talked to reporters after the game.

BSO and The Franchise's Daniel Bell, along with other media, talked with Waters about the head coaching vacancy in Stillwater, and what he would look for in a potential candidate.

“Similar to [Mike] Boynton. Just being disciplined, playing hard. It's hard to get guys to realize that the situation that they're in is a place that a lot of guys want to be. It could very well be the last time you put on a jersey for the team," Waters explained. "You know, somebody that has those core values, I’d ride with anybody."

Waters played four seasons in Stillwater, with Boynton being Oklahoma State's head coach for three of those. He's plenty familiar with Boynton, having been a near-full-time starter for each of the seasons.

For someone like Waters, who had a four-year career with the Cowboys, his input and analysis regarding the opening matters.
