Oklahoma State could have a fun passing game next season, and its new star receiver should play a massive role.

Over the past few months, a plethora of talent has come to Stillwater through the transfer portal, particularly from North Texas, as key players have followed head coach Eric Morris to OSU. While quarterback Drew Mestemaker has often dominated the spotlight of those discussions, wide receiver Wyatt Young also deserves some love in that conversation after his phenomenal 2025 with the Mean Green.

CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford recently wrote about how Young could be the next star receiver in Stillwater. Ranking No. 7 on his list of top 10 wide receivers going into next season, Crawford explained exactly why the Cowboys could have a superstar running routes in 2026.

“One of several impact North Texas transfers who followed first-year coach Eric Morris to Stillwater, Young's first step is lethal -- partly why he was one of the Group of Six's best last fall with 70 catches for 1,264 yards and 10 touchdowns,” Crawford wrote. “He's teaming back up with quarterback Drew Mestemaker at Oklahoma State, and that familiarity should produce big-time results. Young recorded a 295-yard stat line on eight catches against Rice last fall, and his 190 yards on nine receptions during a win over Charlotte helped the Mean Green keep pace in the American. A step up in competition against Big 12 secondaries will have no bearing on Young's numbers. He's a crafty croute-runner and has a long career ahead of him.”

While Young will be new to Stillwater, alongside many others, the idea of a star wide receiver wearing the orange and black in Boone Pickens Stadium is far from a new concept. Over the years, the Cowboys have had several star receivers, with the Mike Gundy era featuring multiple Biletnikoff winners in Justin Blackmon and James Washington.

While it remains to be seen if Young can reach those heights as he makes the adjustment to the Big 12 level, the Cowboys should certainly be back near the top of the conference in passing with him and Mestemaker making a connection all season.

For OSU to get back into the Big 12 title race and to become a national player again, players like Young will need to quickly translate to the power conference level and bring some star power in the biggest matchups. Assuming he can pick up where he left off when 2026 begins, Young could be the x factor for the Pokes in Morris’ first season.
