Oklahoma State has picked up more depth at running back.

The Cowboys have received another transfer portal commitment, with the latest one coming from former Arkansas running back AJ Green. He spent the past three seasons with the Razorbacks and started in four games in 2023.

This season, Green was Arkansas’ second-leading rusher with 312 yards on 67 carries. At 4.7 yards per carry, Green was a valuable part of the team’s rushing attack.

With the departure of Jaden Nixon, OSU will have another dependable running back to pair with Ollie Gordon II next season. After winning the Doak Walker Award, Gordon has the starting spot secured, but having a solid rushing attack when he is not on the field would be a valuable asset.

Green’s best game in 2023 came against one of OSU’s 2024 Big 12 opponents. In a loss to BYU, the running back rushed nine times for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

Green had his best season as a Razorback in 2022, when he ran for 414 yards on 87 carries. He also added three touchdowns on the ground that season.

His best performance that season also came against a Big 12 team when the Razorbacks defeated Kansas in the Liberty Bowl. Green rushed for a career-high 101 yards and scored a touchdown.

Although he did not tally any stats in 2023, Green returned kickoffs in his first two seasons, which is something he could do at OSU if he fills in as Nixon’s replacement.

Across his three seasons at Arkansas, he ran for 951 yards and six touchdowns. With a returning offensive line, Green could carry over that success to OSU.

Originally from Tulsa, Green is making his return to Oklahoma to play for one of the teams that recruited him out of Union High School, where he was ranked as one of the three best players in the state.
