Oklahoma States Makes the Cut for Five-Star Cornerback’s Top Three Schools

Can the Cowboys land highly touted cornerback Kobe Black?

Five-star cornerback Kobe Black recently released his commitment date, and he will likely be choosing between Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas A&M. Black is set to commit on November 29th. His brother, Korie Black, currently plays defensive back for the Pokes. If Kobe Black chooses the Cowboys, he would go down as the second-highest-rated commit in Oklahoma State history behind only 2004 QB Bobby Reid.

Although the Pokes are still in this battle, it feels like Black is leaning heavily toward the Longhorns. Black has several crystal ball projections across multiple websites, and the vast majority are in for Texas.

Still, the fact that he has a brother currently playing for Oklahoma State bodes well for the Pokes. There is always a chance to change the momentum when family is involved.

Kobe Black hails from Connally, Texas, and he is rated as the 35th-ranked prospect in the country (third-ranked safety). He also plays basketball and runs track for Connally. Black has high-level speed and has plenty of length at 6-foot, 190 pounds. He could be a game-changing athlete for Oklahoma State if the Cowboys do manage to land him.

If Oklahoma State is able to land Kobe Black, he would be a program-changing signee. He would not only make an impact on the field, I believe he could change the dynamic of Oklahoma State recruiting as a whole. It's very rare for a smaller program to land an elite talent like that, and typically when they get the first one, many follow. Missouri is a good example of this. They went out and got Luther Burden, who was a five-star recruit and is now excelling on the field. They just landed the top player in the country in the class of 2024 in Williams Nwaneri.

Oklahoma State could follow a similar trajectory if they are able to convince Black to join their class. That's easier said than done, especially considering the fact that Texas is considered the heavy favorite. However, if the Cowboys can pull it off, I like their chances of building momentum in the recruiting world.
