Ole Miss Swept in Saturday Doubleheader, Remains Winless in League Play

Saturday's games were not banner performances by the Ole Miss pitching staff.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Following a late loss in game one on Saturday, the No. 13 Ole Miss Rebels dropped the second game of the doubleheader against the No. 3 Florida Gators at Swayze Field by a final score of 12-8.

The Rebels started freshman Grayson Saunier on the mound who struggled across his 2.0 innings pitched, allowing five earned runs on six hits. He was relieved by JT Quinn (4.0 IP, 3 ER), Jordan Vera (2.1 IP, 1 ER) and Jackson Kimbrell (0.2 IP, 0 ER) in the loss. Nine of the Gators' 12 runs in game two were earned.

The Gators opened a 6-0 lead through 2.5 innings in game two, but Ole Miss responded with a five-spot in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to one run. Following that run, however, Florida pushed across runs in the fifth, sixth and ninth innings to secure the win.

At the plate, Ole Miss found three RBIs apiece from Ethan Groff and Kemp Alderman as well as one from TJ McCants. Two of Alderman's runs driven in came via a two-run shot in the ninth inning.

With now two losses on Saturday, Ole Miss falls to 0-5 in SEC play this season and surrendered a total of 21 runs across the two contests in the doubleheader. The Rebels have also secured an 0-2 start in conference series this season with the doubleheader sweep on Saturday.

The Rebels and Gators will conclude their series tomorrow with a new start of 2 p.m. CT in order to receive the telecast on SEC Network.
