Ole Miss Meeting with Fired Longhorns Coach Chris Beard - Report

Chris Beard was fired by the Texas Longhorns on Jan. 5 after third-degree felony assault charges loomed over his head. However, those charges were dropped, and now it appears the Ole Miss Rebels are giving him another potential chance.

Former Texas Longhorns men's basketball coach Chris Beard is meeting with the Ole Miss Rebels about the team's head-coaching vacancy, per reports Monday from On3.

The Rebels, who currently hold an 11-20 record and are 3-15 in conference, fired head coach Kermit Davis on Feb. 24 after he led the team to just one NCAA Tournament appearance in four full seasons.

Win Case has taken over the interim coaching role after Davis' firing.

Beard was fired by Texas on Jan. 5 after third-degree felony assault charges loomed over his head.

However, those charges were dropped on Feb 15. Now, Beard could have a potential path back to the collegiate coaching ranks. Of course, that's if programs are willing to take the publicity risk that he'll come attached with.

It appears that the Rebels are willing to take that risk, as meeting with Beard shows a real interest in making him the program's next head coach.

But as of now, Beard remains without a job, and the Rebels would likely have to be blown away to want to take their chances with hiring him. Putting together an official meeting hardly means this will happen, but it shows Ole Miss is at least willing to hear Beard out.

Beard is 237-98 in his head-coaching career and 10-4 in the NCAA Tournament. He led the Texas Tech Red Raiders to the National Championship in 2019.
