A.J. Brown Praises Mississippi Athletes Prior to Super Bowl

The former Rebel believes his home state doesn’t always get the respect it deserves.

Leading up to the Super Bowl, former Ole Miss Rebels and current Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown is focused on his first experience in the nation’s biggest sporting event.

Even so, he is taking time to deliver a message, specifically one to his home state of Mississippi and the other Mississippians participating in the game.

Brown and Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay both played at Starkville (Miss.) High School before going to Ole Miss and Mississippi State, respectively. There are plenty of other Mississippians on these rosters as well, however, and Brown recently spoke highly of his state in media availability.

“I think the state of Mississippi is just slept on, you know? They don’t think too many guys are going to come out of that state and produce at a high level. As a state, it’s just hungry. It kind of reminds me of Philly. Poor state, not given much. You’ve got to go earn whatever you want. I’m pretty sure the state of Mississippi is proud of everyone who is going to play in the Super Bowl, and I know Mississippi is going to represent well.”

Brown has gone down in Ole Miss lore for his productive career in Oxford, and in his first year with the Eagles, he has made his mark as an important offensive weapon as well. Names like Willie Gay and Chris Jones will be on the field at the same time as Brown during the Super Bowl, and those Mississippi natives will be tasked with slowing down the potent Philadelphia offense.
