Former Ole Miss Coach Matt Luke Reportedly in Mix For Offensive Line Coaching Position

The former Rebels head coach is reported to be in the mix for an offensive line coaching position at Notre Dame.

Former Ole Miss Rebels head coach Matt Luke is reportedly in the mix for an offensive line coaching position at a premier destination in college football.

FootballScoop reported on Wednesday that Luke is being pursued by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for its vacant offensive line coach position. The Irish recently hired Gerad Parker as its new offensive coordinator under second-year head coach Marcus Freeman, and the website reported that "Freeman and the Irish have had extensive, highly in-depth conversations with Matt Luke" about its coaching position in the trenches.

Luke became Ole Miss' interim (and later full-time) head coach following the unceremonious departure of Hugh Freeze from Oxford in 2017. He led the Rebels to a 6-6 record that season under NCAA probation, but his teams subsequently went 5-7 and 4-8 on the field in 2018-19. His final game at Ole Miss was the infamous 2019 Egg Bowl that featured an unsportsmanlike conduct call on Elijah Moore that hindered the Rebels' opportunity to tie the game late.

Following his stints in Oxford, Luke joined the staff with the Georgia Bulldogs under Kirby Smart, leading his offensive line. He last coached in 2021 and spent last season away from the coaching profession.
