Morning Report: Lane Kiffin Talks Rebels Quarterbacks, Michael Oher Saga Continues

Multiple headlines came out of Oxford on Thursday, including more on former Rebel Michael Oher.

Welcome to the Morning Report, a piece from The Grove Report that highlights the news from the day surrounding the Ole Miss Rebels.

Today is Aug. 18, 2023, and here's the news you need to know out of Oxford.

1. Lane Kiffin talked about the ongoing quarterback competition at Ole Miss on Thursday.

Kiffin is still non-committal on naming a starter for the 2023 season, but he did provide more quotes about the battle as a whole after practice on Thursday.

2. Hugh Freeze sounded off about the Michael Oher drama, and more news from the situation emerged on Thursday.

You can read what Freeze had to say here about the athlete he coached in high school. Also, the Tuohy family attorney alleges that both Oher and the family were paid the same amount of money for The Blind Side.

3. Ole Miss has announced the winner of the 2023 Chucky Mullins Courage Award.

Senior defensive end Cedric Johnson is the new holder of this honor, the school announced on Thursday evening. You can read more here.

4. Former Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt is retiring from broadcasting.

Nutt's career in Oxford started with a bang in 2008, but by the time of his firing in 2011, the Rebels were a 2-10 team. Since then, he found a home in broadcasting with CBS, a post from which he is now stepping down.
