OXFORD, Miss. -- The 2023 college football regular season ended last Saturday, and social media is already blowing up with players announcing their intentions to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. The Ole Miss Rebels are among the plethora of teams already losing players, as true freshman tight end Jayvontay Conner announced on Tuesday evening that he plans on entering his name into the portal.

"I will be entering my name into the transfer portal as a Redshirt Freshman with 4 years of eligibility left," Conner via X (formerly known as Twitter). "Thank you Oxford."

Conner was a three-star prospect in Ole Miss' 2023 recruitment class and will have four years of eligibility remaining after using his Redshirt. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native, was rated as the No. 42 tight end and No. 742 overall prospect in the 2023 recruitment cycle by On3 recruiting

Conner appeared in three games this season for the Rebels and recorded one reception for seven yards versus the ULM Warhawks in Week 12.

Jayvontay Conner was a member of the Ole Miss Rebels' 2023 recruitment class and caught one pass in his time with the team.

Conner's announcement puts the Rebels in an interesting predicament moving forward when it comes to the tight end position.

Going into their soon-to-be-announced bowl game, the Rebels are rolling with senior Caden Prieskorn, who has caught 20 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns this season. Prieskorn technically has an extra year of eligibility thanks to COVID-19, but he has not made a public decision regarding his football future.

That leaves sophomores Kyirin Heath and Hudson Wolfe. Heath hauled in four passes for 60 yards in seven games, and Wolfe registered two receptions for 36 yards in five contests.

There is also a chance that Lane Kiffin turns around and adds another talented tight end to his roster from the high school ranks. Kiffin and Co. have been hot on the recruitment trail for current Alabama Crimson Tide commit Caleb Odom, a four-star prospect and the No. 2 tight end in the 2024 cycle.
