Ole Miss Rebels defensive end Cedric Johnson fell for LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels' hard count and jumped offsides — but that was the least of their worries.

Daniels, knowing he had a free play at his disposal, chucked a long bomb down the right sideline and into the arms of Tigers wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. for what was called a touchdown on the field. On the replay, Thomas appeared to still be bobbling the football as his foot was already out of bounds.

The officials ruled that Thomas had control while still in bounds — a questionable call, at the very least — and he had his third touchdown reception of the game and LSU took a 48-40 lead.

However, Daniels' pass wasn't the only thing chucked in the wild sequence.

Disgruntled fans, obviously upset with the call, booed the officials and hurled water bottles and beer cans onto the field as LSU trotted onto the field to attempt their extra point. That prompted stadium officials to issue a statement over the public address announcer for fans to stop throwing items on the field to preserve player safety.

After the successful point after try made it a 49-40 game, Rebels defensive tackle Zxavian Harris threw a punch on an LSU player, getting flagged for a personal foul penalty.

The sequence felt like any wind that was left in Ole Miss' sails was whisked away after the chaos of the penalties, the questionable call and the fans throwing objects on the field.

However, the Rebels responded with a 10-play, 70-yard touchdown drive to cut the game to 49-47 with 5:06 remaining in the fourth quarter.
