OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels have an extremely challenging slate of games this upcoming college football season. With road games set against the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs, the Rebels have one of the more brutal schedules in their own conference and college football as a whole.

247Sports recently ranked the nation's 12 most grueling schedules this fall and rated Ole Miss at No. 1. Here are the notes on Ole Miss having the toughest schedule this season.

The only SEC school to play road games against Alabama and Georgia next season, Lane Kiffin might be in for a step back in 2023 with the Rebels. The first three games should be wins unless Tulane shreds this Ole Miss defense with returning quarterback Michael Pratt and coach Willie Fritz in Week 2. The Green Wave did end the 2022 campaign as the Group of Five's best team and could do so again. Ole Miss opens SEC play at Alabama and no team wants that when the bullets start flying in league play. It's hard to see a path to a crown in the SEC West for the Rebels with this slate.

The Rebels are the only team in the Southeastern Conference who have to take on both Alabama and the defending national champions on the road this fall. To make matters worse, Ole Miss opens conference play against the Tide in Week 4, which is immediately followed up by back-to-back home games versus the LSU Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks, respectively. There is also a chance that Ole Miss takes a loss before they even get to Alabama thanks to a road game in Week 2 versus the Tulane Green Wave.

To top it all off, Ole Miss will have to travel to Starkville for the annual Egg Bowl versus the Mississippi State Bulldogs to finish the regular season. There is no room for error if the Rebels want to even have a shot at taking the SEC West this season.
