Penn State added two more receivers to its 2024 recruiting class on Friday, including the top-ranked player in New York for this recruiting cycle. Josiah Brown, a 4-star prospect Hicksville, N.Y., and Peter Gonzalez, a 3-star receiver from Pittsburgh, committed to Penn State's 2024 class in separate announcements. The commitments boosted the group's offensive firepower and improved its national ranking.

Penn State has received commitments from three wide receivers in the past week, with Philadelphia standout Tyseer Denmark beginning the run June 21. Brown and Gonzalez bring unique talents to the class, which now features 20 committed prospects.

Brown is the top-rated prospect in New York, according to the 247Sports Composite, a 4-star player who generated national recruiting interest. Brown chose Penn State from an offer list that included Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Miami and Virginia Tech. Brown recently visited Penn State, Georgia and Rutgers before picking the Nittany Lions.

A first-team all-state player, Brown excels at receiver and defensive back for Holy Trinity High, which won the New York Catholic High School Football League Class AA-1 championship last season. Brown also placed fourth (10.92 seconds) in the 100-meter dash at the New York State Track & Field Championships. Brown is a top-300 player nationally, according to ESPN and the 247Sports Composite, and a top-20 athlete, according to 247Sports.

Gonzalez, a 3-star prospect from Pittsburgh Central Catholic, was a first-team all-state at wide receiver last season. The 6-3, 200-pound Gonzalez caught 43 passes for 737 yards and eight touchdowns in 2022, according to his impressive website. His father Pete Gonzalez was a starting quarterback for Pitt in the 1990s, when he threw for 3,532 career yards and 36 touchdowns.

Gonzalez, the 14th-ranked player in Pennsylvania according to 247Sports, chose Penn State from a top 3 that included Virginia Tech and Miami. Gonzalez also has received offers from Pitt, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Cincinnati, among others. He is the second Central Catholic player to join Penn State’s 2024 class with linebacker Anthony Speca.
