Penn State Basketball Lands Shot-Blocking Forward From Transfer Portal

Yanic Konan Niederhauser, who spent two seasons at Northern Illinois, announces intent to transfer to Penn State.

Yanic Konan Niederhauser, a 6-11 shot-blocking forward who spent two seasons at Northern Illinois, is transferring to Penn State, adding needed size to the Nittany Lions roster. Niederhauser announced his decision on social media.

Niederhauser, originally from Switzerland, started 26 games for Northern Illinois last season, averaging 19.6 minutes per game. He scored 7.3 points and grabbed 4.4 rebounds per game and led Northern Illinois with 57 blocks, topping the Mid-American Conference at 2.1 blocks per game. Niederhauser is an important addition to the Nittany Lions' roster, particularly with 6-10 forward Demetrius Lilley entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Last season, Niederhauser shot 7-for-24 from 3-point range and 54.1 percent from the field, highest on Northern Illinois' roster among players with at least 100 attempts. Before Northern Illinois, Niederhauser played in the German professional league, making six appearances in the Pro A League. Niederhauser also played for the U18 Swiss national team.

Niederhauser is the second player to transfer to Penn State this offseason. Kachi Nzeh, a 6-8 freshman who played at Drexel last season, joined the roster in March.
