Pitt Narrowly Misses Preseason Coaches Poll Top 25

The Pitt Panthers are the unofficial No. 30 team in the country.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers were not far off from cracking the first USA Today Coaches Poll of the 2023 season.

Pitt earned 52 points in the preseason Coaches Poll, good for the 30th most in the country and fifth most among schools not in the top 25. Only Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and UTSA earned more points while not making the top 25. The Panthers trailed No. 25 Texas A&M by 142 points.

Three ACC schools - No. 8 Florida State, No. 9 Clemson and No. 20 North Carolina - cracked the top 25. The Panthers have the Seminoles and Tar Heels on their schedule this year, along with No. 13 Notre Dame and two other schools - Wake Forest and Duke - who also received votes.

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi was one of the coaches to vote in the poll.
