New Mock Draft Has Five Pitt Players Selected

Chad Reuter has five Pitt Panthers going in his new seven-round mock draft.

PITTSBURGH -- NFL Draft analyst Chad Reuter has released a new mock draft for all seven rounds and, if his predictions hold true, the Pitt Panthers will be well represented at the Draft in Kansas City this year.

Five Panthers are selected in Reuter's new round of draft projections, with two going in the first three rounds.

Superstar defensive tackle Calijah Kancey was, unsurprisingly, the first to go. The Detroit Lions took him with the 18th overall pick in this mock draft.

"After passing on Jalen Carter at No. 6, the Lions find a difference-maker on the defensive line at this spot," Reuter said. "The comparisons between Kancey and three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald - both former Pitt stars - seem unfair, but I think Kancey has the juice to at least be a very good starter in the league."

The second round came and went before running back Israel Abanikanda became the second Panther taken off the board. The Dallas Cowboys, seeking backup for Tony Pollard, get the speedy Pitt tailback with pick No. 90 overall, the 26th selection of the third round.

Safety Brandon Hill was next up, going to the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round at pick No. 115 overall. Linebacker SirVocea Dennis followed in the fifth round, with the Giants using a compensatory pick at No. 172 overall to take Pitt's leading tackler from the past two seasons. In the sixth round, the Denver Broncos traded with the Pittsburgh Steelers so they could take offensive tackle Carter Warren, who rounds out the Pitt contingent selected in this mock draft.
