This means the Panthers will play their rivals later in the non-conference schedule than they have in recent years. The previous three meetings have been played during the second week of November and this matchup will come about three weeks later.
Pitt is 88-101 all-time against West Virginia in the longest-running series in program history. The first official edition of the Brawl was a 30-25 Pitt win over the Mountaineers Feb. 17, 1906. Two previous meetings between to two schools occurred prior to Pitt recognizing basketball as a varsity sport.
Current Pitt head coach Jeff Capel is 0-4 against the Mountaineers during his tenure, with an average margin of defeat of 16.25 points. The Panthers have dropped six in a row to their southern rivals dating back to 2011.
