Pitt Lands Commits From Diaz-Graham Brothers

The Pittsburgh Panthers land two major recruits.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Panthers men’s basketball and head coach Jeff Capel landed a key recruiting victory on Wednesday afternoon. Jorge and Guillermo Diaz-Graham — twin brothers whose recruitment has blossomed ever since they arrived at IMG Academy in the fall of 2021 — committed to Pitt. The two twin brothers, who took official visits to Pitt two weeks ago, announced on Twitter that they have chosen the Panthers over the likes of Providence, Georgia Tech, Maryland and Utah, among others.

The Diaz-Graham brothers were considered late bloomers as far as college recruitment goes. They came to the United States only recently, but have impressed scouts ever since. They are still unranked prospects according to 247Sports but picked up high major offers during their final year of high school.

Jorge stands 6-foot-11 and considers himself a stretch forward that can pass, dribble and shoot effectively, while the seven-footer Guillermo is more of a traditional center that has constructed his game inside the three-point line and around the paint.

This is a desperately needed recruiting win for Capel, who is tasked with rebuilding a roster that has been decimated by transfers for the second off-season in a row. After losing starting forward Mouhamadou Gueye and reserve guard Onyebuchi Ezeakudo to graduation, fellow rotation players Femi Odukale, Ithiel Horton and Noah Collier all transferred earlier this spring.

Max Adamadsun, Chris Payton and Dan Oladapo — a trio of forwards who combined to play just 207 minutes for the Panthers last season — also transferred within the past few months.

The Panthers have three more scholarships open for this coming season.
