Pottsville Recruit Hoping to Catch the Eye of Pitt

Jacob Begansky has had one school on the top of his list for some time now.

Those who dream of playing college football tend to do a little more than most to meet their goals. Not everyone is an athlete, but some are handed the gift.

Pottsville offensive lineman Jacob Begansky carries that dream, and the size, and the skill. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound left tackle has visited nine schools during his recruiting journey but has yet to receive a Division 1 offer.

He has his eyes on one school, though. Despite growing up on the eastern side of Pennsylvania, Begansky's goal has been to play for Pitt and head coach Patt Narduzzi and believes he's got the skills to make an impact on the Panthers offense.

"I feel like I have the size," Begansky said. "High football I.Q., I love the game. It's literally my entire life. I feel like I can grow as a player there, and that can translate into the next level. That's the whole goal."

Begansky, like any high school recruit, is spending his spring visiting programs and sorting through those that impress him. He has a list of what he looks for in each visit, which he feels Pitt offers all of.

"Definitely a great, winning program," Begansky said. "Good facilities, nice head coach, a lot of players that I can bond with and good schooling."

Begansky will continue to train and look to prepare his body for the college level. He plans to be upwards of 275 pounds by the end of his high school career and has intentions of bringing a District Championship home to Pottsville in his senior season.

Afterward is still unknown, but for some time now, he's had the same mindset about what he wants to do beyond high school and who he wants to play for.

"[Football] and getting good schooling in college," Begansky said his goals have been. "Really seeing how far football can take me."

If it works out, how far Pitt can take him.
