WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — For the third time this season, Purdue junior center Zach Edey has been named a first-team All-American selection, this time by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

The 7-foot-4 standout also earned recognition on the first team by Sporting News and the Associated Press. Should he earn honors from the United States Basketball Writers Association, Edey will be the program's fourth consensus All-American in the last seven years.

It would also give the Boilermakers consensus All-Americans with two different players in back-to-back years for the first time in modern history. Jaden Ivey was a consensus All-American in 2022.

Entering the NCAA Tournament, Edey is averaging 22.3 points, 12.8 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.5 assists per game for Purdue while shooting 60.6 percent from the field and 73.6 percent from the free-throw line.

He ranks sixth in the country in scoring and third in rebounds while leading the nation with 26 double-doubles in 33 games played. Edey has scored in double figures in every game this season, including a career-high 38 points in a 77-61 win against Michigan State on Jan. 29 at Mackey Arena.

During the team's Big Ten Tournament run at the United Center in Chicago, Edey posted back-to-back games of 30 or more points en route to being named to the conference tournament team while capturing the award for Most Valuable Player.

Edey is looking to become the first player in NCAA history with 750 points, 450 rebounds, 50 blocks and 50 assists in a season.

The Boilermakers enter the NCAA Tournament with a 29-5 overall record and have won its last five games, all during the month of March. They earned the No. 1 seed in the East Region and will tip off against the winner of a play-in matchup between Texas Southern and Fairleigh Dickinson in the first round.
