Former Purdue Wide Receiver DeAngelo Yancey Picked 3rd in XFL Draft

Former Purdue wide receiver DeAngelo Yancey is a New York Guardian. What's that, you say? Well, it's a team in the new XFL that starts in 2020 and the Guardians used their first pick in the skill-position portion of the draft to take Yancey.

Yancey played at Purdue from 2013 to 2016 and had 141 receptions for 2,344 yards and 20 touchdowns. He might be best remembered at Purdue for having 11 catches for 125 yards against Indiana in the Old Oaken Bucket game his freshman year.
He had 48 catches his junior year, and 49 as a senior. That 2016 season was his best, where he posted 951 yards in the air and had 10 touchdown catches.
Yancey was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was cut at the end of training camp, but then signed to the Packers' practice squad. He was cut again at the end of he 2018 camp, and not re-signed.
He's also been signed by the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans but has never been able to make an active roster.
The draft will last two days and several other Purdue players are eligible. We will update this story throughout the day.
