Injury update: Purdue QB Elijah Sindelar still in concussion protocol

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — In their lone game without Elijah Sindelar at quarterback, the Purdue offense looked out of sorts.
With Sindelar sidelined with a concussion, The Boilermakers lost handly to TCU, 34-13, and the offense struggled all night to get anything going. Now, a week and changed removed from that game, Purdue has yet to get its leader back.
“We are still doing exactly what the doctors say,” Purdue coach Jeff Brohm said on Monday. “I think he’s making progress. We will see how this week goes. Really, last week, we thought he was making progress, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
"It wasn’t until Thursday that something popped up again. That’s where we started the process over.”
When Sindelar goes, so does the rest of the offense.
Through the first two games of the season, the fifth-year senior led the NCAA with 68 completions, 932 passing yards, and nine touchdown passes.
That’s what Purdue misses when he’s on the sidelines.
“We will see toward the end of the week where we are at,” Brohm said. “It’s just going to be a matter of where we are at on Thursday and Friday.”
Head injuries are being taken seriously these days, and there's no way that Sindelar, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound senior from Princeton, Ky., will get rushed through the concussion protocols until he's ready. Check points are put into place for a reason, and they aren't to be messed with.
He'll play when the doctors say he's ready to play.
The Boilermakers are certainly a different team with him, though. Against Nevada in the season-opener, he threw for 423 yards and four touchdowns. He was even better in the home opener against Vanderbilt, leading Purdue to a victory with five touchdown passes and 509 yards.
Purdue hosts Minnesota in its Big Ten conference opener this Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium. Game time is at 3:30 p.m. ET (TV: ESPN2)
