South Carolina Baseball Program loses SEC opener to the Ole Miss Rebels with continued hitting struggles at crucial times.

South Carolina opened up conference play against the Ole Miss Rebels Friday night and got runners on board in the first but couldn't get anything else done. The next inning, however, after a one-out single from Parker Noland and Tyler Causey hit by pitch, Will Tippett would get them both in with a 2 RBI double to take an early 2-0 lead. Ole Miss would respond with a run in the second before heading into the third inning.

Carolina regained its two-run lead in the top of the fourth inning after back-to-back singles from Noland and Causey, followed by a sac bunt from Tippett and a ground out from Dylan Brewer, which brought in the Gamecocks' third run of the game. Just like in the second inning, though, the Rebels answered back with a run of their own to bring the game back within one run.

Ole Miss would lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after a pair of singles, followed by a 2 RBI double, giving them a lead of 4-3. The Gamecocks got into big trouble with three straight walks in the bottom of the seventh but limited Ole Miss to only one run after a double play and a ground out to give them a chance to still get back in the game only down two.

Carolina got one back in the top of the eighth to bring it within one run, scoring Kennedy Jones after his leadoff double. They had a chance to tie the game up in the ninth or take the lead, but they just couldn't get it done, with their first four hitters going a combined 0-16 in game one.
