Dawn Staley and South Carolina's Women's Basketball team have been the standard in their sport for the past year and a half, winning 38 straight games and running the table in the regular season and SEC Tournament, as they look to win their second consecutive national title. In the process, the Gamecocks have been lead by star players in Aliyah Boston and Zia Cooke, but have also witnessed the emergence of players like Kamilla Cardoso, Brea Beal and Raven Johnson, which has made South Carolina an even more dangerous team.

On Selection Sunday, the feeling was that the Gamecocks' resumé was easily good enough to earn the top seed, and the committee agreed with those sentiments, naming them as such on Sunday evening. This means Dawn Staley's squad will not only be playing at the Colonial Life Arena in the first two rounds, but are also slotted in Greenville Region #1.

In terms of the other top teams in their region, the Gamecocks could see meet up with potential foes in the No. 2 seed Maryland Terrapins, No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the No. 4 seed UCLA Bruins. They'll play against the 16th-seeded Norfolk State Spartans in the first round.
