On Saturday morning, it was reported by 247Sports' Brad Crawford that South Carolina's special teams coordinator, Pete Lembo, had recently interviewed for the head coaching vacancy at Buffalo. It appears that the Long Island native really impressed the athletic department personnel for the Bulls, as per ESPN's Pete Thamel's reporting on Sunday morning, Buffalo has narrowed their search to Lembo, and is appears set to make him their next head coach.

The move is one that shouldn't come as a great surprise to anyone, as Lembo has publicly stated during his time in Columbia that he yearned for another head coaching opportunity. He'll be closer to home and likely to immediate family, and he has previous experience in Buffalo's conference, the MAC, being at Ball State from 2011-15.

The Gamecocks will now have to decide what they want to do as far as special teams is concerned for the 2024 season. Shane Beamer could decide to run that himself, and hire a different on-field assistant, or continue to use the same model which had Lembo provide oversight over just the special team units over the past three seasons.
