When an opportunity arises in sports for a team to bring home a former player, one in particular that was highly accomplished, some can have reservations about how a move like that could work out. For South Carolina's Shane Beamer, however, when he had the chance to bring back former Gamecock and defensive line standout Travian Robertson into the defensive tackles coaching role in April, he had little to no hesitation in going through with it.

Having yet to reach his first Fall camp since returning to Columbia, Robertson has already done a great job in his role, according to Beamer, who utilized his journey and background in a recruiting pitch directed at wide receiver target Jonathan Paylor at SEC Media Days.

"Travian has been awesome," Beamer said. "Being a former player, a guy that was highly recruited out of the state of North Carolina and chose to come to South Carolina - but [he's] somebody that loves Carolina, his wife loves Carolina, [has a] great family."

While Robertson will undoubtedly help out South Carolina as a recruiter due to his connections to North Carolina and the Atlanta metro area in Georgia, he's also expected to have a positive impact as an on-field coach, noting that he will push his guys his practice to help them create good habits. Players have already felt this impact, as evidenced by a quick story Shane Beamer told at SEC Media Days.

"We were out on the field watching workouts about a month ago, and one of our defensive tackles pulled me aside - and he just said 'You got the right dude. He's made us better already.' So our players have really taken to him and are excited about him being here."

Robertson will have quite the talented room to work with this upcoming Fall, with preseason third-team All-SEC selection Tonka Hemingway and veteran Alex "Boogie" Huntley likely leading the way for his unit this Fall.
